FUE or DHI hair transplant: what is the difference?

Both methods take hair the same way. The difference is how the grafts go back in, and that matters less than the plan and the donor area.

In both FUE and DHI, grafts are taken one by one from the back of the head. In FUE, the surgeon first opens small channels and then places the grafts; in DHI, an implanter pen places each graft directly. The best method depends on your hair, the area and the density you need.

What matters more than the method

  • The donor area: how much good hair you have at the back and sides determines how many grafts can be taken safely.
  • A stable pattern of hair loss: if loss is still active, a doctor may advise medical treatment as well.
  • A natural hairline that suits your age and face, planned with you before the procedure.
  • In women, the cause of hair loss should be checked first.
