Who is it for?
For the same people as classic FUE: a good donor area, stable hair loss and an area that needs a larger number of grafts.
How is it done?
Grafts are taken one by one under local anaesthesia. The recipient channels are opened with sapphire blades, which are very sharp and smooth, and the grafts are then placed into the channels.
Alternatives and how to choose
Sapphire FUE is a variation of FUE, not a separate method: grafts are taken and placed the same way, but the channels are opened with fine sapphire blades instead of steel. It suits the same patients as classic FUE and is often used when many grafts are placed close together. If a clinic advertises sapphire FUE as a guarantee of better results, ask what else is different, because the plan and the team matter more than the blade.
Good to know before you decide
- Sapphire blades are very sharp and smooth, which allows small, precise channels.
- The donor area, the number of grafts and the hairline design are planned exactly as in classic FUE.
- Healing after sapphire FUE follows the same timeline as classic FUE.
- Ask your doctor which blade and channel size is used for your hair type.
- Follow the same care instructions as after any FUE: gentle washing and no pressure on the grafts.

Risks and possible side effects
Every operation carries risks. With an experienced surgeon, a fully equipped hospital and good preparation, most are rare and treatable. Your surgeon explains your personal risks during the consultation; complication insurance is included in the price.
- Bleeding or haematoma (blood collecting under the skin)
- Infection, treated with antibiotics
- Reactions to anaesthesia, minimised by the pre-operative assessment
- Delayed wound healing; smoking increases this risk considerably
- Temporary shock loss (weeks 2-8)
- Some grafts growing less than expected
- Thinning of the donor area, prevented by careful planning
After your surgery
- Sleep half-upright for the first nights.
- Do not touch or scratch the grafts.
- The first wash is done at the clinic; then wash as you are shown.
- No sport, sauna or pool for 2 weeks.
- No tight hats in the first days, and protect the area from the sun.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between sapphire FUE and classic FUE?
Only the blade used to open the channels. Sapphire blades are very fine and smooth, which allows small, precise channels. The planning, the donor area and the experience of the team matter more for the result than the blade.
Is sapphire FUE more painful?
No. It is done under local anaesthesia like classic FUE. Most people feel the numbing injections at the start and then mainly pressure.
How long does sapphire FUE hair transplant take?
About 6-8 hours, under local anaesthesia. The time depends on your plan and any combined procedures.
Is sapphire FUE hair transplant painful?
Only the local anaesthetic injections are briefly uncomfortable; afterwards there is mild soreness.
When can I go back to work after sapphire FUE hair transplant?
Most people return to desk work after about 3-7 days; physically demanding work needs longer.
Sapphire FUE hair transplant in Turkey: is it safe?
It can be, when an experienced hair transplant doctor performs it in a properly equipped clinic, checks the cause of your hair loss first and takes no more grafts than your donor area can safely give. We plan 3 days in Istanbul. Read our honest guide: Is plastic surgery in Turkey safe?
