Who is it for?
For people who want a dense, natural hairline or extra density between existing hair, with a good donor area. It is often chosen when shaving the whole head is not wanted.
How is it done?
Grafts are taken one by one under local anaesthesia, loaded into an implanter pen and placed directly at the chosen angle and depth, without opening channels first.
Alternatives and how to choose
DHI uses an implanter pen to place each graft directly, so the doctor controls the angle, depth and direction of every hair. That control is useful for the hairline and for adding density between existing hair. For large bald areas, FUE is often more practical because more grafts can be placed in one session. Many patients do not need to choose: the doctor can use both methods on different areas in the same procedure.
Good to know before you decide
- DHI is often done without shaving the recipient area.
- Placing grafts with the pen takes longer, so a DHI session usually covers a smaller area.
- The hairline is designed with you before the procedure and should suit your age.
- Avoid touching or scratching the grafts while they are fixing in the first days.
- Your first wash is done at the clinic, so you learn how to clean the area safely.

- Delayed wound healing; smoking increases this risk considerably

Frequently asked questions
Is DHI better than FUE?
Not in general. Both take grafts the same way; DHI places them with a pen, which gives control over angle and density in smaller areas. For large areas FUE is often more practical. The doctor recommends the technique after seeing your photos.
Can DHI be done without shaving?
Often the recipient area does not need to be shaved, which makes DHI popular for the hairline and for women. The donor area is usually shaved in a small strip that is hidden under longer hair.
How long does dHI hair transplant take?
About 6-8 hours, under local anaesthesia. The time depends on your plan and any combined procedures.
Is dHI hair transplant painful?
Only the local anaesthetic injections are briefly uncomfortable; afterwards there is mild soreness.
When can I go back to work after dHI hair transplant?
Most people return to desk work after about 3-7 days; physically demanding work needs longer.
DHI hair transplant in Turkey: is it safe?
It can be, when an experienced hair transplant doctor performs it in a properly equipped clinic, checks the cause of your hair loss first and takes no more grafts than your donor area can safely give. We plan 3 days in Istanbul. Read our honest guide: Is plastic surgery in Turkey safe?
What happens if I have a problem after I fly home?
