Why waiting before the flight matters
After surgery the risk of blood clots is higher for several weeks, and sitting still in a plane adds to it. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons notes that even around 4 hours of total travel affects the risk. That is why we plan the final check before your flight, and why the steps below matter.
On the flight
- Book an aisle seat so you can stand up easily.
- Wear compression stockings – and your garment, if you have one.
- Walk or move your feet and calves every hour.
- Drink plenty of water; avoid alcohol.
- Keep medicines and your surgery documents in your hand luggage.
- After a BBL: sit on a BBL cushion.
The first weeks at home
- Tell your GP or family doctor that you had surgery, and bring your documents.
- Keep wearing your garment and caring for the wounds as instructed.
- Send photos to your coordinator at the agreed times – we follow you online for a year.
- No heavy lifting or sport until your surgeon says so.
When to get help immediately
Call emergency services if you have pain or swelling in one calf, sudden shortness of breath or chest pain – these can be signs of a blood clot. Contact us and a local doctor quickly if you have a fever, a red, hot or leaking wound, or pain that is getting worse.
